Application modernization is a huge technical project. It can involve making significant changes to the way your company operates, however it is well worth the time and effort required. The benefits of application modernization are numerous, including increased productivity and decreased costs.

In this blog post, I will discuss some of the key reasons why companies should invest in application modernization, what industries tend to benefit from it most; if there are any challenges that come with the process; and how to ensure that you get all your ducks in line before starting any work on your own company’s applications.

The Problem

There are three main problems with applications:

  • They’re not up to date with the latest technology. For example, if your application is written in a language that is no longer supported by the makers of that language, you can’t upgrade to a newer version of it. This means you’re stuck with an outdated platform that cannot be updated due to lack of support from its creator.
  • They’re not user friendly. A lot of companies have editors who write code for them and then give it to programmers who turn it into a working application or website — but these editors often don’t know how best to make something easy for people who aren’t computer wizards; as a result, they create interfaces that are confusing and hard to navigate through without training on how they work first hand!
  • They’re not secure enough against hackers/viruses/malware attacks etc., which makes them vulnerable because they could get hacked at any moment without anyone noticing until too late when someone tries logging into their account and finds out there’s nothing left inside waiting for them anymore! That would really suck big time so we definitely want this problem fixed ASAP because nobody wants their personal information (like bank details) being sold off online by criminals trying making money illegally with stolen goods online like credit card numbers etc.

Application modernization can benefit many companies in the current day and age

Application modernization is a process of re-engineering business applications that are outdated. It is an important process because it helps to improve security, save money and attract new customers. The benefits of application modernization include:

  • Improved security: Application modernization can help your company to protect sensitive data by ensuring that outdated systems are updated with the latest software patches and firewalls.
  • Reduced costs: Application modernization will enable you to reduce the cost of maintenance by integrating your existing platform into a cloud-based environment where infrastructure costs are lower than those incurred on premises. This will also allow you to scale up or down as needed depending on demand levels without incurring additional costs associated with physical servers or hardware maintenance contracts. Additionally, it’s easier for businesses using cloud platforms because they don’t need as much training time when they’re switching roles within an organization (such as from developer/tester/project manager).

Why Modernise?

The reasons to modernise a legacy application are manifold. For example, by improving the quality of software you can reduce the time to market and therefore increase your competitive advantage with respect to other companies in your industry. In addition, this will result in reduced risk of introducing bugs and errors into production systems that may have been present for years without anyone noticing them.

Modernising applications also enables scalability and performance improvements which can help to make your business more efficient overall.

Is there Specific Industries for Application Modernization?

Modernising an application doesn’t just benefit one industry or set of users. It can improve the way any company operates, whether they’re a retailer that uses point-of-sale systems to track inventory and sales or a telecommunications provider that provides mobile services.

Whether you’re looking to modernise your core business applications or something less critical like an internal helpdesk tool, there are several signs that indicate it may be time for a refresh:

  • Poor performance
  • High maintenance costs
  • Slow response times
  • High energy consumption

Are there any Challenges?

There are some challenges with application modernization. The first is the cost of modernization, which can be significant but is often underestimated because it’s difficult to quantify.

The second challenge is the time it takes to modernise and the risk of business disruption during this time.

It’s also important to look at your existing IT operations in terms of their maturity level, as well as their ability to deliver on SLAs (service level agreements) and provide adequate support for users when there are problems with applications or systems that have been modernised.

Conclusion

App modernization is still a relatively emerging field. However, it is already clear that it offers huge potential for companies of all sizes to boost their business operations as well as improve user experience. It can help companies increase operational efficiency and save costs, but only if they invest in the right tools and processes now.
