Kubernetes is one of the most popular open-source projects in the world. It’s used by thousands of organizations to automate and manage containerized applications. In fact, it has become so popular that many companies are now offering a managed service for running Kubernetes on their infrastructure.

One such company is Amazon Web Services (AWS), which launched its own managed Kubernetes service called Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS) in 2017 and recently followed up with an enhanced version known as Amazon Elastic Container Service for Kubernetes (EKS). Let’s take a closer look at both services to see how they compare when deciding where to run your next workloads!

What is Amazon ECS?

Amazon ECS is a highly scalable, fast, container management service that supports Docker containers and allows you to easily run applications on a managed cluster of Amazon EC2 instances. You can use Amazon ECS to schedule tasks on your clusters.

By using task definitions, you configure the resources that are required to run your tasks in AWS or on-premises environments. You can also use Amazon ECS to manage your clusters by using the console or command line interfaces (CLIs) with the AWS CLI or SDKs.

Benefits when using Amazon ECS

Amazon ECS is a managed container service that makes it easy to run, scale, and operate containerized applications. Amazon ECS automatically detects and replaces unhealthy containers to improve availability; uses built-in load balancing to distribute traffic; integrates with your existing tools; supports Docker images; allows you to use your preferred language and framework.

Amazon Elastic Container Service (ECS) is a highly scalable, high performance container orchestration service for deploying and managing applications using Docker containers. It offers automatic scaling of the number of EC2 instances across multiple Availability Zones in an AWS Region based on resource utilization or pre-defined events (such as updates).

In addition to being able to easily set up and start working with Docker images stored in Amazon Elastic Container Registry (ECR), AWS customers can also use their own private registries by enabling them on individual tasks or services within their cluster.

What is Amazon EKS?

Amazon Elastic Container Service for Kubernetes (EKS) is an open-source managed Kubernetes service that makes it easy to deploy, operate, and scale containerized applications. It is a great option if you want to run Kubernetes in the cloud without having to install or maintain the underlying infrastructure.

Amazon EKS uses AWS CloudFormation templates to create and manage your cluster resources: EC2 instances running the control plane components of your cluster such as master and agent nodes on which Kubernetes runs its services; load balancers that distribute incoming requests across your clusters; and certificates used for authentication between all components of EKS.

Benefits when using Amazon EKS

Amazon EKS is the most secure option. Amazon EKS provides the highest level of security because it uses AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) to control access to the cluster, so only authorized users can make changes. This also means that you can audit changes made to your cluster, including who made them, when they were made, and what was changed.

Amazon EKS is the most scalable option. Amazon EKS clusters are dynamically scaled up or down as needed without requiring any manual intervention on your part — you just set up a number of worker nodes in advance and let Amazon take care of managing them for you based on usage patterns.

You can also run multiple Kubernetes clusters side-by-side with each other if need be; this would allow you to run multiple applications in different environments at once without having them interfere with one another (for example: test app running in staging environment while production app runs in production environment).

Amazon EKS vs Amazon ECS: Choosing A Container Service

If you’re looking to deploy Kubernetes on AWS, Amazon EKS and Amazon ECS are two services you should consider. Here are the main differences between them:

  • Amazon EKS is a managed service that makes it easy to run Kubernetes clusters in the AWS cloud. It’s also pre-configured with tools and add-ons that make it easy to manage your cluster at scale.
  • Amazon ECS is a container management service that makes it easy to run, scale, and manage containerized applications across clusters of EC2 instances (also known as fleets). It integrates with many other AWS services such as IAM, CloudWatch Logs and S3 so you can easily find information related to your containers through these other toolsets as well (for example: logs from all services running within an instance).

There is not one solution that fits every situation, this blogpost provides insight in all available options.

Kubernetes is an open-source system for automating deployments, scaling and management of containerized applications. It’s also the most popular solution for managing Docker containers.

Kubernetes can be deployed on a variety of cloud providers and bare metal hardware, with Amazon’s Elastic Container Service (ECS) and Google Cloud Engine (GKE) being two popular choices. But what do they each bring to the table? This article will explore the differences between them so you can decide which one fits your needs best!

Conclusion

Amazon ECS and EKS are both viable options for managing your containers. They have their own strengths and weaknesses, but both services offer the same level of functionality — such as scaling and load balancing — across a range of cloud providers. With that in mind, it’s up to you which one makes sense for your project given its requirements.
